The Academy of Arts and Knowledge is a public elementary charter school that offers an enhanced school year with year-round educationally based programming through The AAK Community Learning Center. Primary Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate will support students during the regular school day and in the AAK Community Learning Center. AAK support staff work directly with students and teachers to provide academic interventions and extra support as needed. While working in the Community Learning Center, support staff lead, participate in, and take responsibility for after-school and out-of-school program activities.

General Responsibilities:
  • Deliver academic interventions to small groups of students, as needed.
  • Supervise students during lunch and/or recess.
  • Work with teachers to provide additional support in the classroom setting
  • Maintain effective communication with the Lead Educator at the assigned site.
  • Follow the direction of Lead Educator, Principal or other manager(s) with respect to policies and procedures, and adhere to program requirements.
  • Plan, lead, participate in, and take responsibility for after school program activities.
  • Participate in out-of-school time program planning and design.
  • Meet with parents, students, and community members; communicate in a respectful and confidential manner.
  • Identify needed supplies and resources, and inform Lead Educator. Participate in professional development and program-related training activities.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the AAK Principal.
Schedule: 4-6 hours per day, Monday through Friday afternoons (Typically 11:15am-5:15pm). Hours are consistent and year round, including summer. Additional hours will be available for subbing.

Term: One year with the option for renewal, contingent on funding.
Required Qualifications
● High school diploma or equivalent
● Ability to communicate effectively to multiple audiences
● Willingness to work positively with and mentor youth
● CPR and First Aid Certifications (can provide if needed)
● Pass required criminal background checks
● Ability to perform all tasks identified in this job description
● Valid driver’s license
● Good physical condition with ability to lift 10 pounds
Preferred Competencies
● Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
● Experience working in a school- or community-based out-of-school time organization
● Knowledge of after school programs, communities and/or positive youth development
● Bilingual (English and Spanish)
